Patient and Family Programs
911 REGISTRATION – ALS of Nevada has arranged with local emergency response teams to incorporate pertinent information to appear on their dispatch screens should you dial 911 from your home. Registration forms available in our office. This information includes such items as:
I am unable to speak I am on a respirator I am on a G-tube I have executed a DNR order
AUGMENTATIVE COMMUNICATION - A loan closet of technological devices that allow the patient to communicate when the ability of speech has been lost.
EQUIPMENT LOAN CLOSET – Contains items such as wheelchairs, shower chairs, transfer boards, bedside commodes, walkers, canes, etc. available for loan.
ADL PROGRAM (Aids for Daily Living) – A loan closet of ergonomic aids (eating utensils; speech enhancers; etc.) to assist patients in compensating for the loss of basic functions.
NEWSLETTER – Locally produced information piece published on a bi-monthly basis.
HOME VISITS – Staff or a volunteer (former ALS caregiver) meets with family to discuss the life-style changes created by ALS and offers suggestions for home adaptations.
RESOURCE LIBRARY – Includes books on caregiving and an assortment of books specifically for children dealing with loss and grief.
MEMORIAL TREE PROGRAM – For those for whom ALS research was too late, they are not forgotten. Three memorial groves have been established: Sunset Park (Eastern & Warm Springs), Police Memorial Park (Cheyenne & Hualapai) and Mills Park (Carson City). Former ALS patients are remembered with a tree planting and memorial plaque. If you are interested in having a tree planted for your loved one please contact our office.
SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS – Held in Las Vegas and Sparks.
RESPITE – Custodial care, home bathing, or general respite services. Program is available due to grant funding. (Funds are limited) Must be Nevada resident and show demonstrated need.
SHARE THE CARE – Training provided to your own group of friends, neighbors and relatives to help you create a “caregiver family” so that every job will be done and no one person will have to do too much.
IN-SERVICES – Training provided to home health agencies and medical professionals on the disease of ALS and care management.
